Unveiling the Secret: How the Gemini Side Panel Elevates Your Experience with Google Workspace Apps
AI keeps being integrated further into our lives and the services we use, and as that happens, you’ll probably want an easy way to pull up a chatbot to request something. Microsoft has come up with a lot of ways to pull up Copilot across its range of services. Now, Google is further integrating Gemini into its Workspace suite of apps more seamlessly.
Google has announced the widespread availability of Gemini, its advanced AI assistant, directly within the side panels of Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Gemini integration was already available across several apps to some degree, but with this integration, Google aims to provide you with a quick way to just pull up the chatbot and get AI-powered assistance for summarizing, analyzing, and generating content without the need to switch between applications or tabs. All you need to do is click the Gemini button on top, and you’ll be able to just start typing out whatever request is on your mind.
The enhanced interface offers automatic summaries of the user’s current work and suggests contextually relevant prompts to kickstart their tasks. It leverages Google’s most capable models, including Gemini 1.5 Pro with its extended context window and enhanced reasoning capabilities.
In Docs, Gemini aids in refining content, summarizing information, brainstorming ideas, and generating content based on existing files. In Slides, it assists with creating new slides, generating custom images, and summarizing presentations. In Sheets, you can track and organize data, create tables, generate formulas, and receive guidance on accomplishing specific tasks. In Drive, Gemini can summarize multiple documents, extract quick facts about projects, or delve into specific topics without navigating through numerous files. And it’s even being integrated into the Gmail side panel, offering features such as email thread summarization, draft composition, and response suggestions.
The rollout is expected to be completed within the next few days for most users, so if you want to check this out, make sure to keep an eye out for it. They’re available on the web version, so there’s no need to update anything. This feature is available to Google Workspace customers with Gemini add-ons or Google One AI Premium. Hopefully, Google will keep improving it from its current state now that it’s pushing it down people’s throats more.
